At AbbVie, Development Biological Sciences (DBS) is responsible for all aspects of Toxicology, Pathology, and Comparative Medicine. The Department of Comparative Medicine has an opening for a summer internship to develop computer vision based deep learning models in partnership with external collaborators to study animal behavior. Key responsibilities: The application of deep learning (DL)/machine learning (ML) in computer vision is a rapidly expanding field of bioinformatics. This position will be focused on developing reproducible deep learning models in pre-clinical animal studies with the objective to bring smart tools that can aid in the characterization of animal behavior to improve efficiency and reproducibility in pre-clinical research. Develop DL models for activity recognition, key point detection, etc., from videos. Apply these algorithms to train and test large datasets and determine the accuracy and reproducibility of the results. Analyze and identify issues/concerns with data and performance tuning of DL models. Collaborate with internal stake holders and external partners for endpoint quantification, quality assessment and model deployments. Passion for solving technical problems and applying new technologies to further scientific goals. The Materials and Manufacturing group at the Illinois Applied Research Institute will conduct additive manufacturing laser-based experiments to obtain process-related data. The intern will perform digital processing tasks on camera images to extract temperature derivatives, e.g., the thermal field’s cooling rate, thermal gradient, and solidification rate, around the melt pool area.
