Responsibilities The Power Systems Engineer Intern – Transmission will perform projects/tasks such as computer modeling and analysis for transmission planning studies which include steady-state analysis, short circuit analysis, transient studies and dynamic stability analysis. Studies may include near-term and long-term transmission planning, generator interconnection studies, grounding studies, power flow and short circuit studies, lightning studies etc. How you can make an impact: Assist the supervisor in performing system studies by taking an engineering study task and performing the study based on the supervisor’s guidelines and provided procedures. Perform power system impact studies: Steady State, Short Circuit, Power flow Assisting in full generator interconnection studies. Participate in ERCOT working group meetings and building case-efforts on behalf of specific clients as assigned. Prepare technical study reports for the performed studies. Process, generate, and maintain data as required for subject studies. Identify training needs and present them to the Engineering Manager as needed. Contributing to publications/presentations Research in-line with study requirements and provide insight to create quality reports. Qualifications Bring your passion, here what’s needed: Passed major power system courses, especially power system analysis courses. Familiar with power system analysis tools and software (Such as ETAP, PSCAD, PSSE, TSAT, EMTP-RV, WinIGS, etc) Preferred having any knowledge of the: Grounding, EMI/EMC, Lightning, Energy Market, System reliability, BESS (Battery Energy Storage), PV systems, Inverter based generators, Relay, and protection, load flow and short circuit studies, and substation designing. Position Description:   Information Research (IR) is the technology group that supports businesses across AbbVie R&D value chain. IR Academic Partnerships embeds students within AbbVie businesses to collaborate on projects that help advance our science. The Population Cohorts team within the Computational Genomics group at AbbVie’s Genomics Research Center (GRC) seeks to use genetic variation linked to human disease for prioritization and evaluation of drug targets. The team also exploits our expertise in statistics, computer science, and large data analysis to deliver important results in accessible formats for collaborations spanning AbbVie’s therapeutic interests. We are interested in a student who could support specific projects related to statistics, machine learning, computational biology, and results visualization and delivery. UIUC students are expected to work on-site for at least 50% of their hours at the UIUC Research Park in Champaign, IL.
