Machine Learning, Electrical Hardware Intern – Rivian

Are you ready to join Rivian’s Electrical Hardware team as an intern? We are seeking an intern to support our team with deep learning models for improving performance metrics on image recognition tasks using advanced machine learning techniques like model compression and neural architecture search. The Materials and Manufacturing group at the Illinois Applied Research Institute will conduct additive manufacturing laser-based experiments to obtain process-related data. The intern will perform digital processing tasks on camera images to extract temperature derivatives, e.g., the thermal field’s cooling rate, thermal gradient, and solidification rate, around the melt pool area. Job Requirements: Experience with MATLAB and toolboxes. Experience with Microsoft Excel. Compose data reports for the team. Compose two- and three-dimensional graphs. Provide accurate observations of digital data processing tasks. Participate in discussion meetings. Other additional duties as assigned. We are currently seeking two undergraduate students to join us this summer for research on biomass and sustainable materials. This research will focus on transforming cellulose and lignin, two of the most abundant natural polymers on earth, into value-added materials. The interns should be available for the entire duration of the internship and committed to completing their assigned tasks. They will work eight hours per day from Monday to Friday and should be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Preferred candidates are students majoring in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Chemistry (other engineering majors will also be considered). Previous research experience is a plus.
