Position Description:   Information Research (IR) is the technology group that supports businesses across AbbVie R&D value chain. IR Academic Partnerships embeds students within AbbVie businesses to collaborate on projects that help advance our science. During the regular fall and winter/spring terms, this program is designed for students to work 12-15 hours/week in parallel with their school schedule. During the summer, students are expected to work 35-40 hours/week. The Population Cohorts team within the Computational Genomics group at AbbVie’s Genomics Research Center (GRC) seeks to use genetic variation linked to human disease for prioritization and evaluation of drug targets. The team also exploits our expertise in statistics, computer science, and large data analysis to deliver important results in accessible formats for collaborations spanning AbbVie’s therapeutic interests. We are interested in a student who could support specific projects related to statistics, machine learning, computational biology, and results visualization and delivery. UIUC students are expected to work on-site for at least 50% of their hours at the UIUC Research Park in Champaign, IL. At AbbVie, Development Biological Sciences (DBS) is responsible for all aspects of Toxicology, Pathology, and Comparative Medicine. The Department of Comparative Medicine has an opening for a summer internship to develop computer vision based deep learning models in partnership with external collaborators to study animal behavior. Key responsibilities: The application of deep learning (DL)/machine learning (ML) in computer vision is a rapidly expanding field of bioinformatics. This position will be focused on developing reproducible deep learning models in pre-clinical animal studies with the objective to bring smart tools that can aid in the characterization of animal behavior to improve efficiency and reproducibility in pre-clinical research. Apply these algorithms to train and test large datasets and determine the accuracy and reproducibility of the results.
