Position Title: Food Science Intern– S&T UIUC Position Type: Full or Part Time. Minimum of 20 hrs/wk Mon-Fri with at least 75% of hours worked between 8 AM and 5 PM. Position Term: 6-month position, with potential to extend pending business need and intern performance. Any contract extension will be limited to part time hours (<32/week). Position Requirements: Recently obtained B.Sc. and/or Postgraduate degree within Food Science and Human Nutrition, OR similar disciplinary work experience, OR current enrollment in undergraduate or graduate program at UIUC in good standing as of fall semester, 2023. Position Summary: The Food Science Intern will provide support to researchers and their projects, use their creativity and analytical skill to establish knowledge in the characteristics and functionality of wholesome ingredients (edible beans/pulses, ancient grains, and seeds), and explore emerging food technology. This position will execute experiments and other activities as needed to provide support for current projects, as well as work independently to plan, organize, and carry out experiments to generate technical information. The Food Science Intern may, as an example: investigate the impact and identify the limits of wholesome ingredient inclusion in baked goods, analyze the effect of cooking methods on physical/chemical/functional characteristics of ancient grains, or build competency in food structuring for future food innovation utilizing a 3D printing model. Must be able to complete work remotely Exposure to Data Engineering, ETL, Data Warehousing or other data movement applications Exposure to design, development, testing and integration of high complex software utilizing Java, Scala, Node, or Python Exposure to an Agile/Scrum team environment What Makes You Stand Out Exposure to multiple Data Warehouse systems or Data Lake technology, with demonstrated success in Big Data Technologies such as Databricks, Palantir, Hadoop, SPARK, HANA, Redshift and AWS S3 Exposure to cloud development with platforms like AWS or Azure Exposure to streaming or micro batching large datasets from IOT devices Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn new technologies Strong analytical, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
