Smart Lab Industrial Designer
Welcome to the P&G Smart Lab. This is where “what if” meets reality. We’re building an inspiring space for explorers, thinkers and makers where we can work together to improve the future of home life around the world. Procter & Gamble is best known by our different brands. It’s likely you’ve used a few of our brands already today – Swiffer, Old Spice, Tampax, Always, Olay, Charmin, Bounty, Gillette, Tide, Gain, Cascade, Pepto Bismol, Dayquil, among many others. We impact about 5 billion – yes, you read that right – lives on a regular basis. Just because we have a lot of big-name brands doesn’t mean we think we know everything. Honestly, there is still a lot to be learned about consumer behaviors and practices. And this is where you come in. We are building a place where we can ask some pretty interesting questions about consumer behaviors, habits, and practices. Our work in the Smart Lab is breaking boundaries in the consumer behavior space. We’re using sensors and smart devices to study what people actually do. Think about it – would you remember how many sheets of toilet paper you used last Thursday? Most people wouldn’t. That’s why we’re doing things a little differently. Ultimately, we want to impact and improve people’s lives. And what better way than by understanding what they do and how they act? As a student at the P&G Smart Lab, your time will be divided into two parts – 70% of your weekly time will be driving core business work. We have some pretty interesting projects that we will be working on. The other 30% of your time will be your own. We expect you to spend this time learning, exploring, ideating, innovating, and working on projects that YOU think will be good for us to do. We’re building a team – this isn’t just a solo gig. Sure, we all appreciate our deep focus work time, and we’ll make sure you can have that time. But we also collaborate and need to be good at communicating well with each other. Industrial Design Student Everything we do needs to come with a consumer focus in mind. We need someone who can help us with digital and industrial design. This might be designing the structure of a new smart device. Or it might be helping us build some internal digital assets like videos or presentations. Everything needs to be done with the audience in mind – whether that be an executive in the company or someone in one of our studies. Another thing we’ll need your help with is building a design-focused culture in the Smart Lab. We’re building a center of excellence around empathic research, so you’ll be really well suited for this job if you have the following skills: You are comfortable with the Adobe Creative Suite – or at least comfortable enough to be able to learn what you don’t know Have used tools like Cinema 4d, Blender, Catia Surfacing, Class A Surfacing, Generative Design, Maya, MudBox or ZBrush, SolidWorks, or 3DS Max for designing products or packages Have an eye for consumer-focus in your design work You can teach people about empathic research, consumer-focus, or design thinking You won’t hesitate to speak out in defense of the end user of whatever you’re helping design You know how to ask the right questions in our research – and you know how to help us find answers to those questions Apply through Handshake: https://illinois.joinhandshake.com/jobs/2992889
