As a Deep Learning/Computer Vision Engineer, you will work in close collaboration with Intelinair product teams to deploy machine learning algorithms to improve Intelinair products and services. Our Research Scientists bridge the gap between fundamental research and applications by integrating research into applied projects and working on research inspired by applications. To this end, we are looking to hire top quality Research Scientists interested in contributing to applied research. The role of Deep Learning/Computer Vision Engineer is a 30/70 research vs. engineering role. The work you will do will significantly move the needle with the core product and has high strategic importance to Intelinair. Responsibilities Develop state-of-the-art computer vision and deep learning algorithms to operate on large data sets of aerial images of farms, with the objective to provide situational assessment and predictive capabilities. Implement new algorithms with the objective to show clear improvement over existing algorithms. Share knowledge by clearly articulating ideas through reports/presentations to technical staff and management. Role Perform research to make machine learning more applicable to real-world problems. Provide research input on Intelinair products: determine the scope of the problem, the best place to apply machine learning, and evaluate different approaches. Bridge the gap between the research and products by integrating new fundamental research into applied projects and identifying interesting real-world problems to research. Collaborate with Software Engineers to design and run experiments, including designing and evaluating new algorithms as well as implementing known algorithms. Report and present experimental results and research findings clearly and efficiently, both internally and externally. Be an active member of the Intelinair team by validating and contributing to advances in ML. Skills and Experience Experience of interdisciplinary work between computer vision and crop sciences. Excellent skills in computer vision and deep learning methods for computer vision. Experience using AWS. Solid software engineering skills for prototyping. Minimum Qualifications Master/Ph.D. in the field of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or related field. Publication track record in machine learning conferences and/or journals. Must be professional-level in Python and C++/C. Experience implementing numerical methods and data visualization. Good knowledge of algorithm design. Preferred Qualifications Experience in applying ML to real-world problems. Strong expertise in reinforcement learning and/or deep learning. Position Description: The Part-Time Student Program at the AbbVie Innovation Center, located in the Research Park, is designed to augment AbbVie’s regular staff, and is for students who are able to work in parallel to their school schedule. Major duties include: Normalizing and analyzing external bioinformatics databases for internal use Building and visualizing bioinformatics databases for use in discovery research Qualifications: Must be registered as a full-time student Must be able to commute to the work location on a daily basis Undergraduate and Graduate students Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0, or equivalent Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship 10 – 15 hours/week during the academic year 35 – 40 hours/week during the summer semester Creative problem solver with ability to understand larger picture but who will focus on details Experience with R programming language (especially R markdown) at the intermediate or advanced level Must be able to meet with project managers in Germany early in the day (8-10am central time) Preferred Skills: Experience with RNA-seq is a plus Any prior bioinformatics experience is a plus Note: The position will be hired through a third-party hiring agency and will begin as soon as possible over the fall semester 2019 with an option to continue through the spring, summer and 2020-2021 academic year.
