About the Role Job Title: Business Development Intern Primary Position Function/Summary: The Business Development Intern supports the Research Park’s commercial initiatives by identifying, nurturing, and converting leads into viable business opportunities. The role involves comprehensive market and company research, client relationship management, preparation, and collaboration with internal teams to drive strategic growth. Duties and Responsibilities: Market Research & Lead Generation: Conduct in-depth market research to identify potential clients and industries aligned with Research Park leasing opportunities. Use digital tools, LinkedIn, and industry publications to generate and qualify leads by identifying alumni connections, researching other research park communities, and tracing former Research Park employees to new companies, among other strategies. Monitor industry trends to inform outreach strategies. Researching emerging industries and companies that fit with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s strengths, research, and talent. Facilitating and supporting the planning and execution of corporate visits with executives and technology managers. Sales and Prospecting:  Help support proactive outreach to clients, including drafting emails, scripts, and memos. Support follow-up on leads and maintain an active pipeline to ensure a steady flow of prospects. Assist in setting up and coordinating client meetings. Client Relationship Management: Update the Salesforce CRM system, including data entry, cross-checking, and setting up trial notifications. Support the preparation and delivery of customized presentations and proposals. Reporting & Forecasting: Track and report on business development activities and performance metrics using CRM tools. Provide data-driven insights to improve business development strategies. Administrative & Cross-functional Support: Provide general administrative support, including scheduling, data entry, and document management. Collaborate with internal teams to refine business development strategies and ensure alignment with overall objectives. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent research and analytical skills with the ability to synthesize information from multiple sources. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain clear communications with management and multiple stakeholders on project status. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Outlook and PowerPoint. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-oriented mindset and the ability to build lasting relationships. Qualifications: Must be a full-time enrolled student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign at the time of employment. Graduation date of December 2025 or later. Ability to start training in March 2025 (5-7 hours per week). This role has the potential to continue in Fall 2025 (10-15 hours per week). Preferred Qualifications: Prior internship or related experience in business development, market research, or a similar field is preferred. Familiarity with CRM tools, such as Salesforce. Enrollment in a graduate program in a related field such as MBA, Marketing, Finance, Management/Strategic Management, International Business, Supply Chain Management, Economics/Applied Economics, Communication/Public Relations, etc. Prior knowledge of Research Parks and similar ecosystems. Proven track record in lead generation from prior internships or project work. Demonstrated ability to thrive in a metrics-driven, fast-paced, and dynamic environment. This work enables the early detection and tracking of field issues as vehicle production volumes scale. In this role, you will analyze diagnostic fault codes, network logs, high-resolution hardware data, and general system logs to identify performance or system‑level issues related to charging and power conversion. You will build dashboards and automated alerts that highlight fault frequency, correlate issues with software versions and manufacturing dates, and surface relevant data signals for root‑cause analysis. Ultimately, your work will significantly reduce the time required to pinpoint the exact conditions under which issues occur, directly improving vehicle reliability and customer satisfaction for core functions like charging and power management.  Responsibilities Dashboard Development: Design and build interactive dashboards that provide an overview of system diagnostic faults, including the specific operational state of the module when a fault was triggered. Data Integration: Integrate high-resolution data captures so they can be viewed and analyzed directly within the dashboard for specific faults of interest. Automated Triaging: Develop an automated triaging system to categorize and generate internal tracking tickets based on vehicle identifiers, timestamps, and active software releases. Fleet Monitoring: Monitor critical performance parameters across the entire vehicle fleet to establish and track key performance metrics. Alerting Systems: Create automated chat-bot notifications (e.g., Slack) for newly detected system issues or fault codes, including direct links to the relevant dashboards to support rapid engineering triage. About the Role The Events Intern assists in the implementation of over 200 events annually, including small to mid-size workshops, social & networking gatherings, corporate development & grand openings, and large-scale conferences. You will work alongside our events team to execute events to ensure that the flow runs smoothly and that our team is ready to troubleshoot any issues that arise with the venue, vendors or attendees. You will help organize activities, set up decorations and make sure all logistics are completed on time. Some events may require you to work outside of standard work hours and to take the lead in setting up and tearing down. You will need to have strong communication skills to interact with other interns who specialize in graphics, communications, multimedia, etc. to ensure that the event is a success. You will also utilize multiple software programs to manage event promotion, registration, and attendance tracking. Requirements A solid Computer Science foundation in data structures and algorithms, object oriented programming, and modern software engineering practices from your achievement of obtaining a degree in CS or a similar engineering pursuit. A self-starter with the ability to work independently and within a team with excellent design, coding, debugging and testing skills. Proactive in staying updated with evolving AI trends and new LLM releases. Skilled at diagnosing and solving complex, ambiguous problems with curiosity and a product-focused mindset. Strong communication and presentation skills, able to convey complex analysis clearly and actionably. Experience working with the latest Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI advancements, cloud native AI services like Sagemaker, VertexAI, LangChain, LlamaIndex, or other LLM-orchestration libraries. The ability to use an object oriented programming language like Java or C++ or scripting languages like Python or Perl, and Unix or Linux systems. Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of AWS and GCP cloud environments, including core data and compute services (e.g., EMR, MWAA, S3, Lambda, ECS, BigQuery, Dataproc). Experience with data pipeline orchestration tools and frameworks such as Oozie and Airflow. Query Execution and Optimization: Designing and optimizing queries to run efficiently on platforms such as BigQuery, Hive, Pig, and Spark, ensuring high performance and scalability. Familiarity with modern data architectures, including lakehouse and Medallion design patterns. Understanding of data processing/data governance concepts Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., Cursor, MCP, Copilot, agentic AI frameworks) and emerging AI/ML technologies that enhance data engineering productivity. Experience working with IaC (eg. Terraform, Ansible). Experience working with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform, or CloudFormation, to automate and manage cloud infrastructure deployments and automations. Familiarity & working experience with Kubernetes and container-based orchestration.
