Motorola Solutions Progressive Web App Research Intern – Spring 2020

This internship is for the Spring 2020 semester. This is a part-time internship (< 20 hrs/week), and is located at UIUC Research Park in Champaign, IL. Only UIUC students are eligible to apply. Motorola Solutions is looking for a Junior, Senior or Master’s computer science student to investigate Progressive Web App technology and and build a set of proof-of-concepts. Progressive Web App technology was introduced as a groundbreaking technology for mobile and web app development. The proof-of-concepts to be developed in this internship will evaluate PWA technology on the next-generation of in-vehicle applications for first responders. The candidate will create an analysis and proof of concepts that compare and contrast PWA with native and hybrid in-vehicle applications. Throughout this project, the candidate will gain an understanding of how first responder applications operate by developing in-vehicle proof of concepts that emulate the first responder environment (e.g. standard issue laptop, intermittent network connectivity, and ability to operate in offline mode when there is no network coverage.) Required skills: Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline at UIUC.. Development proficiency in HTML5 Web App development using Angular, Node.JS, JavaScript, HTTP, REST API, and related Web technologies. Experience in Progressive Web App development, including a detailed understanding of PWA backend technology.  Candidates should understand component interaction, scaling and high availability as it relates to PWA. Experience developing Windows native applications in .NET / C# Understanding of Mobile App architecture & notifications protocols (Android & iOS). Effective oral communication skills, organizational skills and attention to detail Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team while handling multiple tasks or projects Desired skills but not required: Proficiency in Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code.
