Corteva AgriscienceTM is seeking a student for an internship within our global Data Science and Informatics group to work on data science projects for discovery of new agricultural molecules. We are aggressively building Big Data and Predictive Analytics capabilities to deliver improved services to our customers. The candidate selected for this position will be working at our research site at the University of Illinois Research Park at Champaign, IL. Job Description: This position will be primarily geared towards application of data visualization tools, machine learning and bioinformatics methods for biological data. We are looking for an intern candidate who will play a role in curating large datasets, developing and deploying learning algorithms with diverse biological data as part of a computational pipeline to discover novel molecules for use in agriculture. Ideal intern candidates should possess expertise in Bioinformatics and Data Science, have familiarity with developing visualization tools for large datasets. The student interns will be working on state-of-the-art methods and will also explore newer approaches for mining diverse and rich biological datasets. Duties and Responsibilities: Work closely with other Data scientists, systems biologists and computational biologists in a dynamic research environment to design and implement sophisticated end-to-end solutions for molecular discovery. Demonstrate independent and creative thinking by making novel models for analyzing large genomics datasets, and drawing sound scientific conclusions. Participate in review meetings throughout the semester and a prepare a report/poster/presentation before colleagues and peers. Job Qualifications: Requirements: Internships are available to students that are currently pursuing any degree in Bioinformatics, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, or related fields Should have completed coursework in machine learning, genomics, bioinformatics or related Should demonstrate projects in the field of genomics, bioinformatics and/or machine learning. Strong programming skills Python (or similar) languages with the ability to quickly create prototype solutions on Unix / Linux platforms. Knowledge of visualization tools: Javascript, Cytoscape, is essential Experience working with open source libraries and toolkits such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Biopython, Jupyter, etc. Must be able to work 20 hours per week during the timeframe of January to May 2020. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
