Position Overview: The Power Systems Engineer Intern – Generation Interconnection will work with a group of engineers who are motivated and learn from each other. The Intern will assist in helping clients interconnect large-scale wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) to the grid. You will contribute by performing individual tasks for designing, modeling, analyzing, and reporting for interconnection projects. Most importantly, you will help these interconnections become an investment for the future and help the environment by facilitating the long-term goal of net-zero carbon emission. Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions): Assists in the design of wind, solar, and BESS generation interconnections projects. Performs individual tasks to prepare for generation interconnection studies, dynamic studies, reactive deficiency studies, transient stability analysis, short circuit analysis, voltage analysis, and load flow analysis. Gains understanding of PSS/E, PowerWorld, PSLF, TSAT, and PSCAD modeling for renewable generation. Supports the engineering team to provide clients with an understanding of the interconnection process for different Independent System Operators (ISO) and Regional Transmission Organizations (RTO). Researches current state/federal/ISO regulatory requirements and NERC/FERC compliance. Aids in the preparation of documentation for interconnection process; requirements, agreements, and compliance. Works under the direction of the Engineering Manager to support generation interconnection projects within Texas and throughout the United States. Performs individual tasks according to good engineering practice and EPE procedures. Required Education and Experience: Completion of or current enrollment in a bachelor’s or graduate degree program with a major in electrical engineering (preferably with an emphasis in Power Systems) from an accredited college or university. Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher Completion of or current enrollment in one or more Power Systems classes: Power Systems Analysis Power System Protection and Relaying Power System Operation and Management Electric Machine Dynamics Power Electronics Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience, education, or exposure to the power industry/renewable energy. Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination. Work Location/Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment in Champaign, Illinois. ADM Modeling Center Chemical Engineering Intern – Spring 2022

Position Summary This role will use engineering expertise to create models of industrial chemical and biochemical processes that are of current interest to ADM! These models will predict the behavior of unit operations involved in the production of bio-based chemicals or other agricultural-based products that are currently used in the chemical process industry. Candidates should be proficient at applying chemical engineering principles and knowledge to solve real-life, industrial-scale plant operation and process development challenges. They will use modeling languages and environments, such as Aspen Plus suite, Excel, Crystal Ball, Python, and Visual Basic. The models will be used for process optimization and estimation, and they will help to guide process development design and decision-making. The position also involves extensive communication, both written and verbal, with other scientists and engineers at various ADM locations. This is a minimum of a six (6) month position, which may be extended due to business need and intern performance. Full-time hours will be limited to a period of six (6) months, after which any contract extension would be limited to part-time hours (<32/week). Job Requirements The ideal candidate will have recently obtained a Chemical Engineering or similar Bachelor’s degree, or will be currently enrolled as a graduate student (after obtaining a Chemical Engineering or similar degree). A candidate may also be currently enrolled with senior standing in undergraduate Chemical Engineering curriculum in Fall 2021 or earlier. You will be developing forecasting projects with advanced machine learning techniques that also use external inputs with continuously flowing data. Key Accountabilities: Your project will connect you to key decision-makers, and you will interact with a multidisciplinary team. You’ll bring your strong technical skills to the table and enrich our data science practice. You will explore, connect, and mine data for its predictive value, and you’ll use advanced machine learning techniques to design and build predictive models. This position is part of the Engineering and Data Sciences team. Specifically, you will be part of the growing Forecasting capability where you will be working to solve a variety of technical challenges, develop prototypes and build out a forecasting platform. 20% – Work in a cross-disciplinary project team of software engineers, database specialists, data scientists, and business subject-matter experts to develop a project plan and deliverables, plus communicate technical solutions to a non-technical audience. 10% – Design strategies and propose algorithms to analyze and leverage data from a variety of sources. 70% – Develop and code models by applying algorithms to large structured as well as unstructured data, completing project deliverables Job Location: This position is located at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in Champaign, IL. Required Qualifications: Must be currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program at the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign in Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or related fields with a graduation date of May 2022 or later Able to complete a semester-long, part-time internship in the Spring of 2022 (January – May 2022) Proficiency in at least one programming language with libraries for or applications in scientific computing (such as: Python, R), and experience with some scientific computing libraries in that language (such as: numpy, pandas, scikit-learn) Hands-on experience interrogating and analyzing large, multivariate data Experience contributing to projects centered around supervised machine learning or statistical inference, both in development and testing Knowledge of multiple techniques used in variable selection, dimension reduction, and feature engineering (such as: binning, PCA, normalization, power transforms, embedding, SVD, variable importance measures) Knowledge of several supervised learning algorithms (such as: linear regression, GLMs, decision trees, neural networks, ensemble methods, mixed-effects models) Knowledge of several time series models and machine learning techniques for forecasting (such as: ARIMA, ARCH/GARCH, kernel smoothing, ETS, TBATS) Experience testing for seasonality, lag structure, heteroskedasticity, and multicollinearity in multivariate time-series data An eagerness to lean into complex and ambiguous business needs and learn to reduce ambiguity to decide the appropriate tools and approaches to try Curious, self-motivated, driven, and have a passion for problem solving Collaborative team player Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong presentation skills, with the ability to discuss the implications of highly technical solutions to a non-technical audience in an easy to understand way.
