Summer 2022 Internship (May – August) Electric Power Engineers, Inc. (EPE) works with clients on a global scale designing solutions for renewable energy (solar/wind/battery storage), Generation Interconnection, Transmission Planning, Distribution Planning, Distributed Energy Resources (DER), and Smart Grids. Throughout your internship, you will develop skills to advance professionally and academically Position Overview: The Power Systems Engineer Intern – Energy Resources Interconnection will work with a group of engineers who are motivated and learn from each other. The Intern will assist in helping clients interconnect large-scale wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) to the grid. You will contribute by performing individual tasks for designing, modeling, analyzing, and reporting for interconnection projects. Most importantly, you will help these interconnections become an investment for the future and help the environment by facilitating the long-term goal of net-zero carbon emission.   Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions): Assists in the design of wind, solar, and BESS generation interconnections projects. Performs individual tasks to prepare for generation interconnection studies, dynamic studies, reactive deficiency studies, transient stability analysis, short circuit analysis, voltage analysis, and load flow analysis. Gains understanding of PSS/E, PowerWorld, PSLF, TSAT, and PSCAD modeling for renewable generation. Supports the engineering team to provide clients with an understanding of the interconnection process for different Independent System Operators (ISO) and Regional Transmission Organizations (RTO). Researches current state/federal/ISO regulatory requirements and NERC/FERC compliance. Aids in the preparation of documentation for interconnection process; requirements, agreements, and compliance. Works under the direction of the Engineering Manager to support generation interconnection projects within Texas and throughout the United States. Performs individual tasks according to good engineering practice and EPE procedures. Required Education and Experience: Completion of or current enrollment in a bachelor’s or graduate degree program with a major in electrical engineering (preferably with an emphasis in Power Systems) from an accredited college or university. Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher Completion of or current enrollment in one or more Power Systems classes: Power Systems Analysis Power System Protection and Relaying Power System Operation and Management Electric Machine Dynamics Power Electronics Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience, education, or exposure to the power industry/renewable energy. Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination. Work Location/Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment in Austin, Texas or Champaign, Illinois. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. Summary We are looking for a Data Science Engineer Intern to support us in developing the Satellite Image Structural Mapping Tool that predicts the internal structural layout of buildings using external characteristics (i.e door, window locations, building geometry, and dimensions).   Direct Responsibilities ●  Work closely with the Lead Machine Learning Engineer and the rest of the software team to develop the Satellite Image Structural Mapping Tool. ●  Focus on the feature engineering aspect of the project and help develop descriptors that encode the external characteristics of buildings (i.e door, window locations, building geometry, and dimensions, etc.) in a physically meaningful way. ●  Participate in implementing, training, testing, and deploying state-of-the-art machine learning models. ●  Gather, augment, and analyze data used for the machine learning models. ● Collaborate via Slack, GitHub comments, and documents.   What We Look For ●  A highly motivated individual who has the drive to learn new things. ●  Must be a current undergraduate student at an accredited university, majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or related fields with sufficient experience in data science and Machine Learning. ●  Proficiency in Linear Algebra, Probabilities and Statistics. ●  Proficiency in Python and Jupyter, experience with scientific computing, data science, and machine learning libraries (i.e numpy, scikit-learn, pytorch, etc.) ●  Experience in Computer Vision and Deep Neural Networks. ●  Experience in cloud computing platforms such as AWS and GCP. ●  Experience in Reinforcement Learning and Graph Neural Networks is a plus. ●  Experience in Java, Android Studio, C/C++ is a plus. Summary The Brunswick i-Jet Lab is seeking Computer Graphics/Engine software engineering interns to join our Research Park Team to join us for the spring semester and/or the summer. You will work in the Research Park office at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. As a Computer Graphics/Engine Software Engineering Intern, you will be an integral member of the team. You will work independently and collaboratively with our students and staff on-site towards a progressive future in the boating industry.   As The Computer Graphics/Engine Software Intern, You Will Use game engine tools and programming to simulate sensors to collect and generate synthetic data in boating environments. Build pipelines using game engine technology that procedurally generates realistic boating environments for testing and simulation. Help build Python/C++ scripts to automate simulation/visualization processes. Maintain and prototype VR, AR, game, and web experiences for product releases. Write custom shaders to provide accurate visualization and lens distortion for image/video generation.   Qualifications Of a Successful Candidate Pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s degree, or Ph.D. in a field related to Computer Science. Experience working with Python and C++ Experience working with Unity or Unreal Engine Base level understanding of game engine technology and computer graphics.
