Responsibilities State Farm has developed a unique internship opportunity for graduate students at the University of Illinois – the Modeling and Analytics Graduate Network (MAGNet).  MAGNet interns apply their statistical modeling and analytic skills to a wide variety of business problems faced by the State Farm organization. Most MAGNet interns are in the Statistics Department’s graduate program, but graduate students in other highly quantitative disciplines may also be considered. While participating in the MAGNet program, students are evaluated and given consideration for full-time post-graduate employment at the various State Farm locations. This internship will allow you to fine-tune and develop your videography and photography skills in a professional environment. Interns will collaborate and coordinate with Research Park leadership and the EnterpriseWorks intern team. Who We are Research Park is a technology hub for corporate operations focusing on innovative, cutting-edge research and development. EnterpriseWorks is an award-winning incubator at the Research Park that focuses on science and research-based start-up companies commercializing technology from the University of Illinois. What You’ll Do The Research Park hosts over 200 events annually and as a Multimedia/Video Intern, you will be responsible for capturing quality photos and videos of our virtual and in-house events (when they resume). You will also be tasked with editing and recapping these events, plus creating videos to promote Research Park and EnterpriseWorks as a whole. You may also be assigned projects (promotional videos/photoshoots, etc) for start-ups in the EnterpriseWorks incubator. You and a team of interns will meet with the client to discuss the project timeline and expectations. You will be responsible for determining techniques to utilize for the completion of the project. A storytelling mindset is valuable for an intern in this position to use as a frame of reference when editing footage. It is important to coordinate effectively with EnterpriseWorks staff and clients to execute all projects to their highest potential. Summer 2022 Internship Electric Power Engineers, Inc. (EPE) works with clients on a global scale designing solutions for renewable energy (solar/wind/battery storage), Generation Interconnection, Transmission Planning, Distribution Planning, Distributed Energy Resources (DER), and Smart Grids. Position Overview: The Power Systems Engineer Intern – Transmission will perform projects/tasks such as network-wide steady-state and short-circuit studies as well as contribute to process improvement efforts, including development of Python scripts. This position will report to an experienced Transmission Manager and be exposed to exciting projects building valuable industry knowledge. Through this opportunity, the intern will gain experience with the Texas and Eastern Interconnection power systems. Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions): Performs power system impact studies including steady state and short circuit studies for transmission systems. Prepares technical reports for studies performed. Processes, generates, and maintains data as required for all engineering related studies. Contributes to process improvement efforts by enhancing existing procedure documents and developing Python scripts to improve existing processes. Takes responsibility for the timely completion of projects assigned while meeting all project quality objectives. Identifies training needs and presents them to the Transmission Manager. Performs individual tasks according to good engineering practices and EPE procedures. Understands how to use and develop software tools to complete engineering tasks. Qualifications & Skills: Proven team player skills with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with respect to explaining technical matters. Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, and analytical skills. Ability to focus and effectively execute a task. Capable of managing multiple tasks. Flexible with the ability to manage change. Possess high standards on producing quality reports and products that they shall own with pride. Required Education and Experience: Completion of, or current enrollment in, a bachelor’s degree program with a major in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university. Completion of, or current enrollment in, power systems fundamentals class(es) (strongly preferred) Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher Work Location/Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment in Champaign, Illinois. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This position can be either full-time or part-time, depending on the applicant.
