Modeling Center Intern for ADM at Research Park Position Summary This role will use engineering expertise to create computational models of industrial-scale chemical and biochemical processes that are of current interest to ADM. These models will predict the behavior of unit operations involved in the production of bio-based foods and chemicals or other agricultural-based products that are currently used in the chemical process industry. Candidates should be proficient at applying chemical engineering principles and knowledge to solve real-life, industrial-scale plant operation and process development challenges. They will use modeling languages and environments, such as Aspen Plus suite, Excel, Crystal Ball, Python, and Visual Basic. The models will be used for process optimization and cost estimation, and they will help to guide process development design and decision-making. The position also involves extensive communication, both written and verbal, with other scientists and engineers at various ADM locations. This is a minimum of a six (6) month position. The internship may extend beyond the 6-month period if interest, performance and business need allow. The Genomics Research Center (GRC) plays an integral role towards the goal of developing world class genetics and genomics research, focusing on finding the right targets and helping us better understand not only human disease biology but also the behavior of and response to our drugs in clinical trials. Within the GRC, the Computational Genomics Group (CG) team assists in the identification and characterization of underlying genetic, epigenetic or transcriptomic factors associated with diseases and aims to understand the mechanism of drug response through quantitative analyses. Major focuses include new target discovery via genetic evidence from population-based studies, molecular phenotypes, and deeper investigation of targets through functional genomics. We are seeking an energetic, responsible intern to join our group for Summer 2023. The intern project aims to compare copy number variation (CNV) calls detected by SNP microarray and whole-exome sequencing (WES) techniques and evaluate their impact on downstream association analyses. The CNVs in the blood samples from a small set of individuals in the UK Biobank project will be used. Within three months, the intern will learn common CNV detection techniques and statistical association analysis with CNVs. Your Responsibilities As a John Deere Part-Time Student–System Engineer at the John Deere Technology Innovation Center at the University of Illinois Research Park in Champaign, Illinois, you will develop next-generation solutions to feed, clothe, fuel, shelter, and connect the world. We are a multi-disciplinary Advanced Engineering team in our Emerging Technology group made up of a mix of full-time and part-time roles. We are focused on Advanced Sensing applications. We rapidly and iteratively design, build, and test ideas and technology that are usually new to Deere, and sometimes new to the world. Successful candidates in these roles will be focused on designing, building, and testing complex sensing systems with a focus on the physical elements of the solution.
