Through this opportunity, the intern will gain experience with the Texas and Eastern Interconnection power systems. Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions): Performs power system impact studies including steady state and short circuit studies for transmission systems. Prepares technical reports for studies performed. Processes, generates, and maintains data as required for all engineering related studies. Contributes to process improvement efforts by enhancing existing procedure documents and developing Python scripts to improve existing processes. Takes responsibility for the timely completion of projects assigned while meeting all project quality objectives. Identifies training needs and presents them to the Transmission Manager. Performs individual tasks according to good engineering practices and EPE procedures. Understands how to use and develop software tools to complete engineering tasks. Qualifications & Skills: Proven team player skills with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with respect to explaining technical matters. Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, and analytical skills. Required Education and Experience: Completion of, or current enrollment in, a bachelor’s degree program with a major in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university. Computational Data Scientist Intern – AbbVie

This is a reality for AbbVie’s Interns. The Genomics Research Center (GRC) plays an integral role towards the goal of developing world class genetics and genomics research, focusing on finding the right targets and helping us better understand not only human disease biology but also the behavior of and response to our drugs in clinical trials. Within the GRC, the Computational Genomics Group (CG) team assists in the identification and characterization of underlying genetic, epigenetic or transcriptomic factors associated with diseases and aims to understand the mechanism of drug response through quantitative analyses. Major focuses include new target discovery via genetic evidence from population-based studies, molecular phenotypes, and deeper investigation of targets through functional genomics. We are seeking an energetic, responsible intern to join our group for Summer 2023. The intern project aims to compare copy number variation (CNV) calls detected by SNP microarray and whole-exome sequencing (WES) techniques and evaluate their impact on downstream association analyses. The CNVs in the blood samples from a small set of individuals in the UK Biobank project will be used. Within three months, the intern will learn common CNV detection techniques and statistical association analysis with CNVs. Responsibilities Intern – Research & Development Center @ University of Illinois (Summer 2023) The Summer 2023 Internship program at the State Farm Research and Development Center (RDC) provides an opportunity for paid research work with a top Fortune 500 Company. The RDC offers students a unique internship at its University of Illinois Research Park location, working on projects that have direct application to State Farm’s research work. Responsibilities: Intern – MAGNet Program @ University of Illinois (Summer 2023) State Farm has developed a unique internship opportunity for graduate students at the University of Illinois – the Modeling and Analytics Graduate Network (MAGNet). MAGNet interns apply their statistical modeling and analytic skills to a wide variety of business problems faced by the State Farm organization. Graduate students in highly quantitative disciplines are considered, with an emphasis on understanding of statistical techniques. While participating in the MAGNet program, students are evaluated and given consideration for full time, post-graduate employment at various State Farm locations: Atlanta, GA; Bloomington, IL; Dallas, TX; or Champaign, IL. MAGNet interns apply their predictive modeling and data analysis skills to a variety of data science problems, in many different lines of business and departments (e.g., marketing, insurance, and process optimization) including: • Pricing and Underwriting Risk Predictive Modeling • Claims Automation Predictive Modeling • Sales/Growth Forecasting, Econometric and Predictive Modeling • Data mining applications for Claims and Competitive Analysis • Evaluating new statistical methods and tools for potential use by State Farm data scientists What You Can Expect: Logistics: • During Summer Semester, MAGNet interns work 38.75 hours a week • Duration: Summer Semester (5/15/2023 to 8/4/2023) Experience: • Direct experience you can leverage for your future career • An opportunity to learn and network with industry-leading influencers • A learning environment: mentoring and development to help you succeed • A culture that embraces Diversity and Inclusion What’s In It For You: MAGNet is similar to a 50% graduate assistantship offered by the University. Interns receive hourly pay comparable to that offered by the University for graduate assistants as well as full tuition assistance for the duration of the internship.
