This role enables the CSS to advance company initiatives and goals. At times, you will be the first line of communication with the outside world, our partners, and Research Network leaders. You will also need to often act as the liaison between the CSS and employees on project-based work. LifeFoundry is a startup in the University of Illinois Research Park that applies engineering tools, like industrial robots, AI, and modern control software to develop a fully-automated robotic platform and re-invent biotech R&D. We are looking for a mechanical engineer to join us in this exciting journey! If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy working with interdisciplinary teams to solve challenging problems, this position is for you. You will work closely with us on developing mechanical structures and components and advanced robotic systems to enable novel functionalities for our robotic high-throughout biomanufacturing platform for cutting-edge biotech research. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Design, implementation, and testing of robotic systems and smart devices. • Working with electrical and computer engineers to develop mechatronics control system. • Prototyping parts for automating platform by 3D printing or CNC machining. REQUIREMENTS: • Full-time engineer should have a BS degree and/or above in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, General Engineer or related fields. • The intern position is open to students in above majors with senior standing and above • Strong CAD skills (Solidworks preferred) • Able to solve problems with methodical and critical thinking • Self-motivated and able to work under minimal supervision • Preferred Design skills: Machine design, DFM, Design-for-assembling, GD&T • Preferred Manufacturing and Prototyping Skills: Rapid prototyping, laser cutting, CNC • Preferred Mechatronics skills: Microcontrollers, motors, actuators and sensors, fluidics • Preferred Analysis and Testing skills: Planning, execution, and reporting tests for robots and devices, data analysis, FEA • 1+ year of related experience for the full-time engineer position We’d love to hear from you!
