The Acceleration Center is comprised of groups of interdisciplinary students working on projects in the areas of data analytics, application development, and emerging technology research. The AbbVie Innovation Center is located in the Research Park at the University of Illinois and provides an opportunity for students and AbbVie’s Research and Development IT group to collaborate on projects to help advance our science. Position Description: The Part-Time Student Program at the AbbVie Innovation Center, located in the Research Park, is designed to augment AbbVie’s regular staff, and is for students who are able to work in parallel to their school schedule. This student will support key activities within AbbVie’s Emerging Technology laboratory environment. Major duties include: o Manage onboarding, access, and operational support of containerized, GPU-enabled enterprise Machine Learning environment o Collaborate with AbbVie Research and Development Data Scientists in support of assessing new analytics and AI solutions o Support Lab DevOps and Infrastructure Automation initiatives, including identifying new automation opportunities o Executing infrastructure administration activities in AbbVie’s agile Proof of Concept Lab environment Qualifications: • Must be registered as a full-time student • Must be able to commute to the work location on a daily basis • Undergraduate and Graduate students • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0, or equivalent • Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship • 10 – 15 hours/week during the academic year • 35 – 40 hours/week during the summer semester • Familiarity with infrastructure concepts, including Windows and Linux OS administration, storage (SAN, NAS) architectures, and network (LAN, firewall, TCP/IP) topics. • Creative problem solver with ability to understand larger picture and needs of the AbbVie business • Ability to maintain adherence to Infrastructure standards and security guidelines • Strong ability to maintain detailed documentation for future knowledge transfer or auditing purposes • Good communication skills for collaboration with both technical and business colleagues Preferred Skills: • Experience with Unix/Linux command line, file system, and shell scripting. • Experience developing, deploying, managing Docker containers • Familiarity with data science concepts such as Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, GPU accelerated compute Note: The position will be hired through a third-party hiring agency and will begin as soon as possible over the fall semester 2019 with an option to continue through the spring and summer of 2019-2020 academic year.
