The COUNTRY Financial DigitaLab opened its doors on November 3, 2017, at the University of Illinois Research Park. The DigitaLab was created in order for the company to connect with outstanding engineering talent at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Currently, this company location focuses on mobile app development and providing real-world experience to its students.   View the grand opening video.

Research Park’s first hackathon included students and community members to create software projects within a 24-hour limit. This PYGHACK Hackathon was in partnership with PYGMALION, originally a music festival that has expanded into bringing a connection between technology and music.

The third Women in Tech Luncheon, a networking event for women in the Champaign-Urbana, was held on July 12, 2017, at the EnterpriseWorks Atrium and brought together women in the technology industry. The featured keynote speaker this year was Ashley Moy, the founder of Cast21, a waterproof cast company. View her speech here.

In 2017, students and employees who began working at Research Park, for less than a year, were invited to this Newcomer’s Social event to meet new people, play games, and eat food. Learn more about working at Research Park here. 

Research Park hosted a summer social event in 2017 where people gathered friends to form teams and compete in the Research Park Summer Softball League.

On July 27, 2017, the most valuable and influential interns were honored at the Intern Awards Picnic.

The TDFC IV building, a mixed-use building, opens in the summer of 2017 and the main goal is to research power optimization for mobile electronics.  The Champaign Council all votes in light of supporting the expansion of Research Park because of the new opportunities and economic benefits to both the University and Champaign community.

The University of Illinois Research Park was the first stop of the Introduction to Research Parks (I2RP) program put on by The Association of University Research Parks (AURP).  The AURP is a national organization partnered with universities across America to provide resources for startup and local businesses offering students and non-students professional experience. With over 200 tenants at the research park, attendees learned about the Research Park mission and growing achievements.

The Graybar Innovation Center opened at the University of Illinois Research Park on May 1, 2017. At this company location, University of Illinois students and faculty assist in developing industry-leading digital capabilities that strengthen this Fortune 500’s position in supply chain. The 11th annual Corporate Internships & Careers in the Research Park was on March 9, 2017, at the i-Hotel and Conference Center at 1900 South First Street, Champaign. The Research Park Career Fair is a great way for students who are specifically interested in working in the Research Park to meet with employers, both startups and corporate operations.
