Research Associate Internship

About Genective Genective, in partnership with Limagrain, focuses on the discovery and development of insecticidal genes to support deregulation and commercialization of biotech corn traits. Their vision is to become a globally impactful contributor to agriculture through biotechnology for corn. Genective believes in and thrives on a culture underpinned by trust, innovation, growth mind-set, and relentless delivery with a sense of urgency. Limagrain is an international agricultural cooperative company created and owned by farmers who pool their resources to enhance the value of their agricultural produce. The Cooperative members are its business partners, suppliers, and clients. Cooperating means accomplishing together what cannot be done alone. This was what motivated the farmers who founded Limagrain in 1965. And it still drives all Genective’s parent company’s 1,300 farmer members—who are their shareholders. As in every cooperative, the principle of one person, one vote applies within Limagrain’s governance. Unlike a company made up of capital, each member has the same voting power, regardless of how many shares they own. These shares—which cannot appreciate, be sold, or transferred—are an enduring collective asset for future generations. Limagrain is a company of farmers working for farmers. That’s their governance model, and it has no equivalent among the world’s leading seed companies. Responsibilities Support screening of candidate insecticidal proteins by performing routine molecula biology laboratory work such as PC, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, etc. Utilize and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Apply scientific curiosity to identify opportunities for process improvement. Ability to plan and execute complex experiments in a fast-paced environment. Document experimental design and results effectively using lab management software. Analyze and interpret complex data to arrive at supportable conclusions. Effectively communicate experimental results by distilling complex information to conclusions. Utilize knowledge and expertise to proactively engage members of Genective R&D team to promote an energetic culture of science and community. Actively seek out stakeholder needs to support molecular biology platforms and company goals. Display a strong motivation for continuous improvement through exchange of constructive advice with other scientists regardless of seniority level. Display the highest level of safety, ethical, and scientific integrity. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications BSc with emphasis on molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or related life science. Hands-on experience with standard wet laboratory and molecular biology techniques (e.g, minipreps, PCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning, nucleic acid QC, ddPCR, Western Blotting; making media, stock solutions, etc.). Familiarity with various prokaryotic cell culture methodologies (e.g., culturing, transformation, colony PCR.). Experience in insecticidal toxins, transgene expression, HTP genotyping, and/or lab automation (e.g., liquid handling robots, colony pickers) is a plus. Proficiency with database systems, MS office, and statistical analysis software packages. Must have excellent written, communication, and presentation skills, as well as excellent time management skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and agile environment. Physcial Demands Prolong periods of sitting and/or standing at a desk. Task involving repetitive fine motor movements, such as typing on a keyboard. Standing, walking, and bending for a frequency less than 2 hours per day. Lift, reach, and transport containers and equipment up to 15lb less than a frequency of 25% daily. Visual acuity: vision for reading documents, working on computer screens and ability to see fine details. Regularly walking to retrieve samples, access different workstations and dispose of waste. Ability to manipulate small objects with precision and coordination. Grasping and manipulate items such as small pipette, forceps, and twisting caps onto vials tightly. Fine motor control in writing and recording data neatly in lab notebook. Bending, squatting, and twisting to retrieve samples/specimens. To apply, please send your resumes and cover letter to: resumes@genective.com.
