John Deere Part-Time Independent Researcher & Analyst – Fall 2021

John Deere contributes to essential human flourishing with solutions that feed, clothe, fuel, shelter, and connect the world. We run so life can leap forward. – Our team at the John Deere Technology Innovation Center in University Illinois Research Park is an advanced R&D team of engineers and scientists working in Emerging Technology. We are great at analyzing numbers, but sometimes we need help analyzing words. We are looking for naturally curious colleagues who are eager to learn new things in our part-time student program. We are looking for students who can follow lines of research and contextualize the data and information that they discover. This is a position for critical thinking, not simply fact-finding. It is likely more well-suited for a humanities major than a STEM major. Areas of research and analysis are likely to include sustainability, emerging technologies, competitive assessments, supplier identification, intellectual property, and others. You will maintain a backlog of research projects and report out to multiple team members on your research and analysis findings. As a part of our part-time program, you’ll be expected to work 15-to-20 hours per week during the school year, and 40 hours per week during the summer. The work will take place primarily  at our facility in Research Park in Champaign, Illinois. Our team considers diversity a competitive advantage. John Deere is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment.   If this sounds a role you would enjoy, please contact Mark Moran (MoranMarkD@JohnDeere.com).

John Deere Part-Time Sensing Research Engineer – Fall 2021

John Deere contributes to essential human flourishing with solutions that feed, clothe, fuel, shelter, and connect the world. We run so life can leap forward. John Deere’s equipment keeps getting smarter by sensing more and more about the world around it. The Advanced Sensing Team at the John Deere Technology Innovation Center in University of Illinois Research Park is central to those efforts for Deere. We work with sensors across the EMF spectrum to improve how our equipment interprets the world. To that end, we are looking for students to join us in that process of discovery – exploring how different physical and chemical phenomena become visible at different points on the EMF spectrum, and how to leverage that to generate agronomic (or other) insights. While some programming and data analysis is a part of this role, it’s really about working with the hardware, and it’s ideally suited to majors like engineering physics, and to people that like to do hands-on work. If working with a range of sensor types in our garage and our test field, understanding how they perceive their environment, and using those insights to create new sensing solutions is interesting to you, please contact Nate Ogden (OgdenNathan@JohnDeere.com).
