About the Role
Standard day-to-day activities will involve processing data on behalf of the project teams. The intern must be comfortable working with structured and unstructured data from disparate sources, writing custom SQL scripts, and using standard ETL methods as needed. The output will directly impact the business insights and decision making of the Insurance division.
This is a part time position during the semester while school is in session and full time during the summer. The intern must be available between 8am and 6pm on weekdays. The minimum availability is 12 to 15 hours a week during the semester. Ideally, the intern should be able to work 20 hours a week. During the summer, interns should be available to work full-time – 37.5 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Integrate with project teams and work closely with senior staff
- Prepare data for exposure management process using Excel, SQL, and other tools
- Clean the source data as needed
- Interpret insurance policy data and assign appropriate classifications
- Write custom SQL code for data processing, ETL, data aggregation
- Build custom views/ virtual tables
- Manage structured and unstructured data
- Work with multiple data sources and disparate data types
- Improve on current data flows and processing efforts
- Take existing Excel VBA processes and standardize with SQL scripts
- Report on specific metrics
- Develop and maintain technical and process-based documentation
Requirements
- Experience working with databases, writing SQL queries, using standard ETL processes
- Must be registered as a full-time student in good standing with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Must be able to commute to Research Park office on scheduled days
Preferred
- Experience scripting in Python or R
- Experience with visualization tools
- Big Data tools
- Full-stack web, including Javascript, HTML, CSS
- Linux
- Any cloud computing
