The Caterpillar Data Innovation Lab is located at the University of Illinois Research Park in Champaign, IL. As part of Caterpillar’s commitment to innovation and technology, the Lab takes on data driven projects to research and prove out concepts that are on the edge of our current business. These projects involve cutting edge data analytics, application development, and more. The work done by the motivated cross functional teams of students at the lab solves some of CAT’s most pressing problems and pushes the boundaries of what is possible.
The CAT Data Innovation Lab gives students the unique opportunity to solve real problems faced by Caterpillar. The criterion for selecting projects for the lab are as follows: the project is at the boundary of our current business, is large enough to become its own business, is likely not to be addressed in the near future by the business, requires a new analytical capability, and represents a divergent leap. That being said, the projects all require a significant amount of research and development and utilize cutting edge technology. Lab projects deliver real results to Caterpillar and play an important role in furthering Caterpillar’s commitment to innovation.
