Every year Rueters ranks the world’s most innovative universities. The 2017 ranking was just released, and the University of Illinois was ranked #25 out of all the universities in the world for innovativeness.

While the University system is composed of the three campuses at Urbana-Champaign, Springfield, and Chicago, reasons for this high ranking include collaborations with the award winning Research Park. Research Park has attracted more than 100 leading companies who partner in technology-based business development. EnterpriseWorks is listed as a source of the innovation on the Urbana-Champaign campus, as it is home to faculty-research based and student startups and gives them the resources they need to become successful companies that are able to ‘graduate’ from the incubator.

The University of Illinois is also working on collaborations with said leading companies. For example, the University just announced collaboration with Caterpillar Inc, which has a data innovation lab and simulation center in the park. Students and University researchers will work with Caterpillar teams to explore and expand on new technologies.
