Serra Ventures, along with over a dozen emerging startup companies in the Research Park and in Champaign-Urbana, was featured in last week’s Business section of the News-Gazette. Don Dodson covered the progress of Serra Ventures’ Serra Capital II fund, which is aimed to have $25-30 million in capital and is expected to close this month. Several of the companies funded by Serra Ventures were also highlighted, including startups located in the EnterpriseWorks incubator and beyond.

President and CEO Tim Hoerr mentions five of the companies funded by Serra Capital I that are nearest commercialization, two of which began in the UI Research Park: ANDalyze Inc. and Personify. Hoerr proudly expounded on the relationship between Serra Ventures and its local roots, saying, “The majority of companies [in our portfolio] are based in Champaign or have a tie to the University of Illinois, and that will continue to be our emphasis going forward.[…]We enjoy playing a catalytic role in local economic development.”
