Autonomic Energy Systems is focused on longer-lasting mobile battery life

Autonomic Energy Systems (AES), a startup company coming to EnterpriseWorks, is using technology that has been discovered at the University of Illinois by founders, Nancy Sotto and Scott White, and their research team, to make phone and laptop batteries safer to use and last longer.

Sotto and White, both professors at the University, recognized the need for safer and longer lasting batteries. Batteries on mobile devices often see a decrease in battery life the older that they get. This means that a cellphone that is brand new could have a battery life of 7 hours, but an older cellphone could die after 3 or 4 hours. 

Adding their self-healing technology to lithium batteries can be done through a “straightforward” surface treatment to the silicon nanoparticles. Sotto and White are hoping AES will commercialize this technology.

They join Xerion Advanced Battery Corp. in Research park in the effort to better batteries for the future.
