Amy LaViers of AE Machines featured on News-Gazette’s Wired In

This week’s high-tech leader in the Champaign-Urbana community is the CEO of EnterpriseWorks startup AE Machines, Amy LaViers. 

Amy Laviers is a woman of many talents, in addition to running her startup company from the Research Park, LaViers is also a University of Illinois Professor, dancer, and director of the University’s Robotics Automation and Dance Lab, which exists to research and understand the relationship between human and robotic motion. 

AE Machines is currently working on a software that would enable flexible automation cells for small-batch processes in manufacturing. This software could make it so that robots could assist assembly line workers to improve effeciency. The factory workers would engage with the software to maintaining and reprogramming cells. “We’re working to make the future of work brighter for factory workers and owners” says LaViers. 

In addition to AE Machines, LaViers is working on commercializing her work on promoting independence in the elderly, and she and her students are pursuing this path by applying to Innovation Corps (I-Corps).
