Sports & Recreation 4 Sports & Recreation

In, around, and between the Research Park buildings, there are outdoor and indoor facilities for sports and recreation.

Outdoor Recreation

If you’re looking to relax outdoors, head over to the shaded, grassy seating space at the corner of First Street and St. Mary’s Road just south of the Atkins Building. It can accommodate up to 1,500 people, making it perfect for dancing, playing, listening to music, and enjoying wine and local Champaign delicacies. In the colder months, have a bonfire around the fire pit behind 2100 S. Oak Street and enjoy a great view of the pond.

Join Research Park’s Summer Softball League to network with colleagues while getting some exercise. More outdoor activities include a basketball court located on Oak and Hazelwood, a soccer field at 1800 S. Oak St, and numerous bike paths across Research Park. The basketball court, soccer field, and bike path are open to all tenants of the Research Park.

Indoor Spaces

One of the benefits for employees who work in Research Park operations is access to the ARC (Activities and Recreation Center) at the University of Illinois at university staff rates. Learn more here.

The Atkins Building Fitness Center had an extensive renovation in late 2017 and has gained a number of equipment enhancements including kettlebells, medicine balls, a rower, and an air bike. It is open to Atkins Building tenants for personal use.
