InnSight Technology, an EnterpriseWorks startup, has received a $750,000 Small Business Innovation Research Phase II grant from the National Science Foundation. Phase II funding will go towards making new advancements in their technology, which is a handheld device that discovers severe eye injuries. The startup's founders, Dipanjan Pan and Leanne Labriola, acknowledge Research Park and EnterpriseWorks by explaining, "We are very appreciative of the support of Jed Taylor and the team at EnterpriseWorks, the startup incubator at Research Park.

Lightform, previously Lumenous, is a graduate from the EnterpriseWorks incubator. The startup was founded by CS PhD students Brett Jones, Kevin Karsch, and Raj Sodhi at the University of Illinois.

Brunswick Innovation Laboratory Opens at Research Park

Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC) today announced it will soon open the Brunswick Innovation Laboratory in the Research Park at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

CHAMPAIGN-- Research Park's own, Serionix, received a $750,000 contract from NASA to "fund continued development of filters to remove toxic gases from next-generation spacesuit life support systems." The first phase of their project, NASA SBIR, began in June of 2016 and now in their second phase, they will increase partnerships to launch products.

CHAMPAIGN-- Seventeen entrepreneurs were selected to participate in the 2017 Fellowship, a part of its Future Founders Startup program. Two of those entrepreneurs are the University of Illinois own, Rohan Gupta from Bilder and Swarnav Pujari from TouchLight Solutions an EnterpriseWorks company.

The Illinois Innovation Index released a study on the record-breaking trends in Illinois startups. A key finding reveals that, “Illinois universities produced more than 800 startups from 2012-2016, nearly 100% more than 2009-2013.” This positive trend is not only true to University of Illinois initiatives, but to a wide array of universities across the state.

ChicagoInno has recently recognized OceanComm’s unprecedented creation of, "A wireless underwater modem that unleashes robots from its cables and eliminates dependency on support ships.” OceanComm, an EnterpriseWorks startup, won the Cozad New Venture Challenge in 2012 and participated in the National Science Foundation’s I-Corps program in 2013. In 2014, the startup received two SBIR grants and won the “most promising company award” at the Offshore Technology Conference in 2015.
