The work of the scientists and technicians of the Geological Survey has two major goals: To improve the quality of life for Illinois citizens by providing objective information essential for development of sound environmental policies and practices, and to strengthen the state’s economy by promoting wise development of and responsible use of the state’s land and its abundant mineral and energy resources.
