About the Role

APTech is seeking an Equipment Operator / Engineering Technician to join a team of skilled technicians who are responsible for collecting roadway and airport pavement-related data with our specialized pavement testing equipment and vehicles. An ideal candidate will have these characteristics:

  • Interest in roads and/or aviation—Do you have an interest in aviation? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be on a runway at a major airport? Our technicians get the opportunity to collect data at a wide range of roadway and aviation facility types.
  • Enjoy travel—Our technicians get the opportunity to work on roadways, airports, military bases, national forests, and so on in various locations throughout the United States and Canada. Note, when traveling, each APTech employee has their own hotel room, receives paid travel expenses, and receives a daily per diem allowance for meals.
  • Mechanically inclined—Are you mechanically inclined? The ideal person for this position will be well-organized, enjoy getting their hands dirty, have some experience turning a wrench, and be able to troubleshoot issues and problem solve in the field.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities associated with this position include:

  • Operating specialized testing equipment on roadways and airports to collect pavement-related condition data. Testing equipment is mounted to a van or pulled behind a pickup truck.
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting the equipment.
  • Mobilizing the equipment to and from the job site.
  • Providing additional engineering project support when in the office (e.g., GIS and CAD mapping, pavement condition workstation surveys, and so on).
  • Occasionally assisting engineers with manual pavement inspections.

APTech will provide paid training and develop successful applicants on the operation and use of the following specialized testing equipment:

  • Automated distress data collection vehicle.
  • Falling weight deflectometer.

Requirements

  • This position will require multi-day travel and may require occasional night work. Typical trips last 5-12 days with the goal of not exceeding 14 days/month.
  • Flexibility to work overtime and weekends when necessary.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Experience pulling trailers.
  • Ability to drive for 8-12 hours in a day.
  • Lift and move up to 60 lbs.
  • Mechanically inclined with good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems is a plus.
  • Outgoing personality.
  • Good communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Punctuality, trustworthiness, and professionalism when working independently.
  • Good overall computer usage skills, including familiarity with the Microsoft Office software suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience with the use of AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS is a plus.
  • Aviation or roadway work experience is a plus.
