Advanced Diagnostics Integration (Data Analytics) Intern
Rivian
About Rivian
Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract. As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.
Role Summary
Internship Term: Summer 2026
Rivian internships are experiences optimized for student candidates. To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited program during the internship term with an expected graduation date between December 2026 through May 2028. Rivian’s Internship Program requires active student enrollment.
The Data Analytics Intern will help develop data analysis tools and dashboards for Rivian’s R2 Energy Management Module (EMM) using cloud data, enabling early detection and tracking of issues in the field as vehicle volumes scale. They will analyze DTCs, PCAP logs, high-resolution oscilloscope data, and lofi logs to identify charging and DC/DC performance or system-level issues, and build dashboards and automated alerts (e.g., Slack notifications) that highlight fault frequency, correlate issues with software versions and build dates, and surface relevant waveforms for root-cause analysis. This work will significantly reduce the time required to find the exact time and conditions under which issues occur and will directly support improved customer satisfaction for core vehicle functions like charging and DC/DC operation.
Responsibilities
- Developing a dashboard which can provide an overview of R2 EMM DTCs as well as mentioning the state the EMM was in while DTC was triggered
- Integrating R2 high resolution data capture which can be viewed directly from a dashboard for a DTC of interest
- Develop automated triaging system for issues for which SYSINT tickets are created based on vehicle VIN, timestamp and release flashed
- Monitoring critical performance parameters across all R2 fleet to come up with performance metrics
- Adding Slack-bot notifications for new R2 EMM related issues / DTCs noticed with links to the dashboard to support triaging
Qualifications
- Must be currently pursuing a bachelors, masters, or PhD degree at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign
- Actively pursuing a degree or one closely related in Data Science
- Strong background in data analysis and coding (Python or similar programming languages)
- Ability to work with large datasets generated from vehicle systems, including DTCs, PCAP logs, high-resolution oscilloscope data, and lofi logs, to identify patterns and issues
- Experience building or using dashboards/visualization tools to monitor system performance and fault behavior
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to support software and controls engineers in root-causing field issues
- Basic background in electrical circuits, preferred
- Experience working with cloud based platforms and automated alerting/notification tools preferred
Pay Disclosure
The salary range for this role is $25.00–$40.00 per hour. This is the lowest to highest salary Rivian in good faith believes they would pay for this role at the time of this posting.
