Aqueous Solutions is developing and supporting software packages for solving problems in aqueous geochemistry, including those arising in environmental remediation and clean energy production. Areas of application include pollution abatement, clean energy, mineral extraction, and petroleum production. Aqueous is the maker of The Geochemists Workbench software package, as well as the ChemPlugin.ORG self-linking software object.
Craig Bethke founded Aqueous Solutions in 2011 and has recently stepped down from his role in the Department of Geology at the University of Illinois to focus completely on Aqueous Solutions. Bethke is also a University of Illinois alumni.

After graduating from EnterpriseWorks in 2014, Aqueous Solutions expanded and up a corporate office in the heart of Downtown Champaign.
