Yahoo! Grand Opening
The Yahoo! Building at the University of Illinois Research Park opened on May 13, 2015. As a Hadoop Center of Excellence, a team of engineers works on Hadoop, an open-source software framework that allows massive data processing distributed across thousands of nodes and petabytes worth of data. “Yahoo saw it as a very strategic location because of its proximity to the University of Illinois,” said Yahoo! Engineering Director Cathy Singer. “The engineers here have proven to be able to quickly learn new technologies. They’ve also had a very low attrition. As a result, the company feels very comfortable putting a big investment in the Champaign site.”
