The Illinois State Geological Survey supports the environmental quality, economic development, and public safety of Illinois by providing accurate, objective earth science research and information.
ISGS staff conduct basic and applied research in geology, compile geologic maps, gather and manage Illinois’ geological data, and provide information about the state’s geology and mineral resources to industry, municipalities and governement agencies, and the public.
