GigaCrop’s mission is to make more food with less land by increasing crop yields. GigaCrop’s technical approach is making photosynthesis faster by avoiding the current slow step, rubisco, entirely. This is achieved by GigaCrop’s novel carbon fixation pathway that has a higher maximum flux than the native Calvin Benson cycle plants use today. Faster photosynthesis enables crops to convert more CO2 into sugars and seeds per year. By unlocking yield inaccessible by conventional breeding, GigaCrop will disrupt the $24B per year transgenic seed market.
