Illini Prosthetics is one of the student started companies in EnterpriseWorks, founder Jonathan Naber was the Lemelson Prize winner in 2010. The Illini Prosthetics team is at work finalizing the different concept arms which they will be taking to Guatemala during their field test from July 9th-18th. They will be testing the designs with ten volunteer patients that have been arranged for their company through the Range of Motion Project clinic (www.rompglobal.org).

Chromatin has been nominated for the Biofuels Digest’s Top 30 Most Transformative Technologies of 2010. A total of 149 companies were nominated, and 7 (including Chromatin) in the category of “Genetics and breeding platforms for feedstock transformation”.

Common Ground Publishing was notified in June that the Institute of Education Sciences awarded them two 2010 Fast-Track (Phase I and II) SBIR Awards totaling $1.7 Million in funding. The awards are for: 1) The Learning Element: A lesson planning and curriculum documentation tool for teachers; and 2) u-learn.net: An anywhere/anytime formative assessment and learning feedback environment. The Principal Investigator is UI Education Department Research Professor and company founder: Bill Cope.

ANDalyze is expanding its operation in EnterpriseWorks this month as the company grows the development of its fluorimeter, a hand-held device for heavy metals testing of water supplies. The company and VP of Engineering, Dave Kellner, were featured this month in Central Illinois Business Magazine. Article Excerpt: Tests for heavy metals in water can take weeks. But ANDalyze's product can determine how much lead is in water in just 40 seconds.

Engineering Career Services (with assistance from Business and Chemical Sciences Career Services) conducted a compensation study of wages, benefits, and recruiting practices for Research Park companies and other local tech sector companies in Champaign-Urbana. The survey characterized wage information for full time positions and student interns, data includes wages, benefits, and use of outside service providers.

004 Technologies GmbH is the research and development subsidiary of 004 Beratungs GmbH. The new “soft landing” US office will open in June in EnterpriseWorks as a R&D center to identify emerging trends in ecommerce and technical disciplines. The office will also serve as a US office to provide consulting for companies seeking to enter the European market via ecommerce expansion. The center will employ students and full time employees to begin work on information systems and payment methods for mobile devices and market research on fulfillment partnerships for European markets.
