About the Role
Mondelēz internships offer a range of assignments over the school semesters and summer vacation. During placement, Mondelēz will make you an integral part of a team and give a real job – with real responsibilities – from day one. Mondelēz hopes to help expand horizons and encourage personal and professional development.
Mondelēz wants to make sure interns get the most from their time with the team. That’s why upon joining, Mondelēz will work out ambitious but achievable goals for you. Then through the support of an industrial and/or academic mentor and regular reviews with a manager, Mondelēz will help interns achieve them.
Life in Research and Development (R&D):
In Research & Development, skills can be the special ingredient that brings brands to life. As part of a fantastic team of scientists, engineers, designers, modellers, and nutritionists, Interns will work tirelessly on product design or development, process development, quality, nutrition, sensory and food safety aspects to ensure Mondelēz delivers a consistent, delightful consumer experience. R&D is where interns turn great ideas into brilliant brands.
An internship within the R&D areas such as Research, Product Development and Process Development.
- Research – Internships consist of working on projects related to the development of technology to enhance existing products or investigate new food concepts.
- Product Development – Internships generally focus on formulation development to create new or improve existing products.
- Process Development—Internships generally focus on developing methods for converting raw materials into finished products and continuously improving existing processes.
- Data & Digital – Internships consist of working on projects related to formulating business problems as data problems and work on solving them through systematic measurements and analysis, developing sensors, and employing machine learning, modelling, and data science methods wherever appropriate.
We are looking for qualified individuals with a desire to work in the food industry and are interested in growing their problem solving, innovation, and analytical skills in a real-life research and development environment. Leadership, innovative thoughts, and a strong desire to learn are critical to succeed.
Qualifications
- Pursuing a BS in combined degrees e.g. Computer Science + Philosophy, Computer Science & Music, Business + Data Science, Computer Science + Crop Sciences. Pursuing a BS in Philosophy, Consumer Science, Computer
- For CS related majors, experience with at least 1 of the following tools/ applications; Unity, Unreal, Swift SwiftUI, RealityKit, ARKit, C++ or C#, Oculus SDK
- Science, Material Science, Music/Music Science, Food Science, Physiology, Psychiatry, Statistics, Economics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

- Able to travel (if required)
During the placement interns will be expected to plan and execute projects at various scales and depending on the scope may encompass hands-on practical work (e.g., benchtop and pilot plant, potentially within FutureLab, potentially within UIUC facilities, or potentially at Mondelez facilities at other locations.).
Mondelēz FutureLab Mondelēz International (MDLZ) FutureLab will be the home of far horizon innovation for MDLZ, and of MDLZ’s virtual environment, Simoja.
Multiple full-time intern positions are available for the summer (37.5 hours/week). Interns will be paid a competitive hourly wage.
The positions are based out of Champaign, Illinois.
