TearDx, LLC

About TearDx, LLC

TearDx, LLC is an early-stage biotechnology company focused on developing devices to unlock the potential of tear fluid for medical diagnostics. Its team is small but passionate about scientific discovery and developing practical solutions to current problems in ocular healthcare. TearDx values collaboration, strong work ethic, interdisciplinary research, and a creative and innovative approach to problem-solving.

About the Role

TearDx is looking for a research scientist with a strong background in biochemistry and molecular biology. The successful candidate will become an integral part of research and development efforts and will contribute immediately to the design, execution, and analysis of key experiments aimed at developing and validating current diagnostic technologies. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment directly impacting the company’s growth and success. The candidate is expected to have a deep understanding of molecular biology/biochemistry principles and laboratory techniques and to use this understanding to design experiments related to the detection, characterization, and chemical modification of biomolecules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently design, conduct, and analyze experiments related to the detection and analysis of disease biomarkers found in tear fluid and on the ocular surface.
  • Investigate and support the development of new experiments and processes related to the company’s diagnostic technologies.
  • Support and work alongside team members to meet key research milestones.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, generate figures and communicate results effectively to the team.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and writings to support efforts for external funding and patent applications.
  • Collaborate and clearly convey complex technical information about the research project to individuals across the company and to consultants and commercial partners
  • Stay up to date with the current literature and technology related to tear-based diagnostics and devices and apply this knowledge to research projects.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and management of laboratory equipment and supplies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. with 2+ years of relevant experience or a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in biosensor design, protein detection methodologies, lateral flow assays, bioconjugation reactions, and PCR methods.
  • Experience with other laboratory characterization techniques including optical and fluorescence microscopy, UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, and electron microscopy.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently and as part of a team to design and carry-out complex experiments.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, with experience in using statistical methods to evaluate data sets.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a high degree of creativity in experimental design.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Experience in a start-up or fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment is a plus but not required.

What TearDx Offers

  • A dynamic and supportive work environment where your contributions are valued.
