The University of Illinois community, including campus leadership, faculty, staff and students, officially welcomed CME Group’s Innovation Center to its campus on Friday, Sept. 9. Laura Frerichs, director of the Research Park, and Ed Seidel, interim Vice President for Research, delivered the University’s formal welcome remarks. CME Group will use the facility to employ University of Illinois engineering and computer science students to work on groundbreaking, hands-on projects related to financial technology and mathematical innovation, such as blockchain, big data analytics, distributed ledger technologies and machine learning. The company plans to employ at least 10 student interns by the end of 2016.
