As an AI and machine learning intern you will develop and test algorithms using data from wastewater treatment facilities in order to assist operators in performing their daily tasks and to optimize the plant’s treatment processes using data-driven insights.
Job Description
We are looking for a talented, passionate, and hardworking AI and machine learning intern, who thrives as a self-starter in a start-up setting. We are a small team, and you will be responsible for developing, testing, and deploying machine learning and AI algorithms under the guidance of company leadership. You will report directly to the company President. We are looking for someone with hands on experience in using python, scikit-learn, deep learning, large language models, and reinforcement learning. Experience with integration of machine learning and AI algorithms into cloud-based web services hosted on AWS is a plus.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Wrangle data.
• Develop and test machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms using wastewater treatment plant data.
• Integrate key data-driven insights into the existing data pipelines and dashboards.
• Produce well-documented and reusable code.
Requirements
• Time commitment of 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters.
• Currently pursuing Masters in computer science or electrical and computer engineering.
• Proficiency in python and javascript web programming languages.
• Experience using cloud-based services (e.g., AWS).
• Experience with developing machine learning / deep learning algorithms, using RAG and finetuning for LLMs, and using standard machine learning packages (e.g., scikit-learn).
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Detail oriented.
• Role is based in Champaign, IL.
