About the Role

TearDx is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented laboratory technician with a background in biochemistry, molecular biology, or chemistry to join its team. The successful candidate will support research and development activities by executing routine experiments, preparing buffers, solutions, and samples, and assisting scientists in data collection and analysis. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment where your work will directly impact the company’s growth and success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain laboratory reagents, buffers, and other materials needed for experiments.
  • Perform routine laboratory tasks including pipetting, centrifugation, and sample preparation
  • Execute molecular biology and biochemistry experiments under the supervision of research scientists.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Organize and maintain accurate laboratory notes and data.
  • Help manage supply and reagent inventory to ensure smooth operation in the laboratory.
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain efficient workflow within the laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A B.S. with 2+ years of relevant experience in a research and development laboratory.
  • Non-thesis masters students at the University of Illinois that are looking for part-time lab work and who have relevant research experience are encouraged to apply
  • Previous experience working in an experimental research and development laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory techniques and equipment including pipetting, centrifugation, optical microscopy, and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy.
  • Experience with standard protein analysis techniques such as ELISA, protein assays, Western Blots, lateral flow assays, and PCR methods is a plus but not required
  • Demonstrates the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Google office suite
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions and protocols
