AARP’s Chief Innovation Officer Jose Hernandez founded AARP’s first university-based innovation lab, The Tech Nest. The Tech Nest provides a dedicated space for ideation, experimentation, and prototype production.
With this dedicated innovation space, AARP has implemented an efficient and effective innovation practice. The Tech Nest has engaged multiple business units and allowed the organization to implement disruptive technologies. The technologies and prototypes developed at The Tech Nest have led to potential product offerings and increased productivity.
AARP established The Tech Nest at the University of Illinois Research Park in October 2016 after a nationwide location search. The student talent from the University’s top ranked engineering program and the was just one of the value propositions for locating at the here. The students, who work in interdisciplinary teams, develop prototypes and challenge perspectives to deliver the best outcomes.
AARP Tech Nest is led by site director Miranda Kemp, who was recruited by Hernandez and has dedicated herself to the success of the innovation center and to the mission of the organization to disrupt aging.
