Wired In: Wei Kang of PhotoniCare

This week, the News Gazette featured Wei Kang of PhotoniCare.  Kang is the director of research development at PhotoniCare and makes medical devices for getting images of the inner ear.

Kang came to Champaign from St. Jude Medical in Boston because he wanted a challenge. He thought this position would fit well with his previous education and knowledge. He has always wanted to feel like his work has made a large impact on others and his work at PhotoniCare does just this.

PhotoniCare is currently thriving. PhotoniCare was the winner of the 2018 SPIE Startup Challenge in San Francisco. This techical conference is the world’s most comprehensive exhibition in biophotonics. After winning this competition, PhotoniCare was awarded $10,000. Along with this, they recieved a week-long entrepreneur boot camp training, promotion opportunities, and reimbursement for travel expenses.
