Mitch Minarick is no stranger to the University of Illinois. He’s worn the orange and blue as a Illinois student, he’s tailgated and cheered on the Illini, and he’s worked with startup programs right here at the Research Park. So when Minarick started his own company, FarmAfield, in his home state of Nebraska, he knew where to further grow his business–right here in Champaign!

Aside from being an avid football fan, Minarick has a passion for agricultural economics that led him to found FarmAfield. The company creates a unique, direct relationship between consumer and producer, letting users buy livestock and crops directly from farmers. Their goal is to utilize new technologies to enable the public to invest in farms and encourage agricultural development.

Why did Minarick choose to locate his office at the Research Park? Because agtech and startup are two words we know well here in Champaign-Urbana.
