Research Park Director Laura Frerichs was appointed Friday to be co-chair of Gov. Bruce Rauner’s newly created Innovate Illinois Advisory Council.

The announcement was made at the 1871 incubator in Chicago.

“It’s all about bringing together leaders who are from different backgrounds. Who can bring different perspectives — venture capital, business, research, universities, education, community leaders, corporate executives — everybody who can who has a stake in the success of the technology sector,” Rauner said at a news conference Friday morning at the Merchandise Mart.”

The Chicago Tribune quoted Frerichs saying, “This council hopefully will bring together so many bright minds that will help us think about what areas can we really thrive and succeed in.”
