About the Role
Applied Pavement Technology, Inc. (APTech) is seeking a full-time Technical Editor to join our Technical Support Services (TSS) Group. This position will work out of APTech’s corporate office in Champaign, Illinois with the potential for a hybrid in-office/work from home schedule.
The ideal applicant demonstrates a strong attention to detail with significant experience authoring and editing technical deliverables. This individual must be able to manage multiple, competing priorities within tight timeframes. In addition, the Technical Editor should have a strong work ethic and the ability to work both independently as well as part of a group.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility will be to review written internal and external technical deliverables to improve clarity, conciseness, consistency, and style, as well as ensuring compliance with copyrights. Additionally, this position will assist with 508 and format reviews. This position also offers opportunities to work on a wide variety of other work activities to support the TSS Group. The individual in this position will be expected to:
- Conduct detailed technical reviews on project deliverables to improve clarity, content, punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, and adherence to style guidance.
- Assess how well a document achieves its goals and offer suggestions for strengthening the final product.
- Review the usefulness and placement of document images to support content, with an awareness of copyright and 508-compliance requirements.
- Support document development activities by working with project team members to establish the appropriate organizational approach, document structure, and flow to meet project objectives.
- Support copyright reviews and copyright compliance tasks.
- Assist project staff with writing assignments to understand and translate complex subject matter into simple, clear, and professionally presented content.
- Proofread final documents to address any issues that arose during the final editing, including formatting and pagination issues, spelling errors, and broken hyperlinks.
- Perform and summarize literature searches.
- Support format, consistency, quality and 508 compliance reviews.
- Contribute strategies for improving project deliverables, processes, and efficiency.
- Work with TSS Group to build and conduct internal guidance to improve author practices.
- Use and maintain APTech, agency, industry, and federal guidance/checklists as appropriate to ensure high-quality and compliant products.
- Follow the TSS Group process to ensure compliance issues are flagged early, all stages of review are completed, and the final product is submitted to the TSS Manager for approval.
- Support meeting management as needed.
- Communicate with TSS Group members, the TSS Group Manager, and other APTech staff to streamline processes as appropriate.
- Practice time management and multitasking skills.
- Work both independently and within teams to meet deadlines.
- Support other TSS Group and Administrative team tasks as requested.
Preferences
- Master’s degree
- 7+ years of relevant experience
