Entrepreneurship is not out of the reach of students. The numerous student startup companies that reside inside the Research Park are evidence of this. The Technology Entrepreneur Center, The Academy for Entrepreneurial Leadership, Founders and The iVenture Accelerator at the University of Illinois encourage student entrepreneurs with competitions, mentoring, and support programs.
Listed below are resources for students who are interested in starting their own company or helping out other startups. There are organizations dedicated to assisting new student startups, and classes and clubs that explore entrepreneurship. Please also view the Student Ownership Policy.
The Technology Entrepreneur Center (TEC) is an interdisciplinary program in the College of Engineering engaging a vast pool of faculty, students, and alumni to provide the education, experiences, and resources that students need to become innovative leaders and empower them to change the world around them.
The Academy for Entrepreneurial Leadership at the offers entrepreneurship programs, services and resources to faculty, students and community members. The Academy’s mission is to encourage entrepreneurial awareness and initiatives across all disciplines at the University. Drawing on the strengths of all fields across the Illinois campus, AEL helps to initiate, build and connect an understanding, appreciation and inclusion of entrepreneurship.
iVenture Accelerator enables the top student-led startups at the University of Illinois to create create technological innovations, social ventures and cultural campaigns by supporting them with knowledge, funding, and access to world-class University of Illinois resources and alumni. Students are equipped with the time, space and mentorship necessary to find product-market fit, build prototypes, pilot programs, key partnerships, and scale.
BOLD (link coming soon) is the women in innovation student group at Illinois whose purpose is to provide women students with the resources and mentors required to succeed as innovators and entrepreneurs. This group is open to students across the campus.
EntreCORPS is a student-managed consulting organization that provides business strategy and design thinking advice to entrepreneurial startups. The team is comprised of graduate and undergraduate students who assist both aspiring entrepreneurs and growing startups.
Entrepreneurs Without Borders (EWOB) is a student led organization that allows entrepreneurial minded collegiate students to establish long term relationships with disenfranchised people in other countries and works with them to solve problems.
Illinois Entrepreneurship Group (IEG) is a club open to all majors that holds weekly meetings consisting of pitching products and services, as well as turning ideas into startup businesses.
Pitch connects a range of backgrounds and majors across campus in order to turn startup ideas into a reality. Committees include Public Relations, Research and Development, Marketing and Design, Business Development, Product Development, and Tech.
Founders is a student entrepreneurship organization that aims to unify entrepreneurial groups across campus. To ensure a cohesive experience, they have strong ties with the TEC. Founders provides an environment that educates, inspires and motivates individuals in order to foster a growing Illinois entrepreneurial community.
OCTR Consulting is the University of Illinois' premiere, entirely student-run business and technical consultancy. OCTR is comprised of 50 top students, primarily from the Colleges of Engineering and Business, and has advised clients ranging in size from Fortune 500 corporations to small businesses in a variety of industries and practice areas for over 10 years.
