The University of Illinois is the leading school where members of the patent bar received their undergraduate degrees, according to a study done by three law school professors. Professors Thomas G. Field Jr. and Jon R. Cavicchi of the the Franklin Pierce Law Center, and Ralph D. Clifford of the University of Massachusetts analyzed patent-bar applications submitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, according to the Patently-O Blog written by Professor Dennis Crouch from the University of Missouri School of Law.

Chromatin, Inc. announced on 9/16/10 an extension of its research and commercial license agreement with Syngenta Biotechnology for corn and soybeans for Chromatin's proprietary gene stacking technology. The agreement furthers a three-year relationship between the two companies. Under a 2007 agreement, Syngenta obtained non-exclusive rights to use Chromatin's gene stacking technology for trait genes in corn and soybeans, and in 2009, Syngenta obtained exclusive worldwide research and commercial license rights to that technology for use in sugar cane.

Yottaclick has been renamed as Caterva to reflect its new technology in social media, in case your curious, Caterva is Latin for crowd or flock. The web-based software will enable marketers to identify potential new customers and message to them over social network services like Twitter based on the classification and interpretation of intent, opinions and other information they publish. The technology was developed by three PhD students in Computer Science at the University of Illinois. The Company was initially established and formed via the iVENTURES10 program.

Fox/Atkins is constructing a new custom lab and office suite for the company. ANDalyze offers products for testing water contamination using catalytic DNA technologies. The company has developed a methodology for detecting and quantifying chemical levels based on the recent discovery of the catalytic properties of DNA.
