CHICAGO – EnterpriseWorks graduate Zero Percent, a startup that coordinates food donations and pickups among Chicago non-profits, is launching a crowdfunding platform to raise money for gas and workers needed to prevent restaurants’ excess food from going to waste.

Roughly 100 cafeterias, restaurants and grocery stores in the Chicagoland area use Zero Percent’s platform to donate their extra food, which is then collected by one of 80 non-profits working with the company. Their new crowdfunding platform aims to mitigate some of the expenses that come with coordinating food pickup and delivery.

Writes Chicago Tribune Blue Sky: “This new crowdfunding platform, Foodrescue.io … asks consumers for $5 donations, which helps produce 15 to 25 meals. People can pick which charity their donation goes to, and it gets 100 percent of the donation.”
