ChicagoInno has recently recognized OceanComm’s unprecedented creation of, "A wireless underwater modem that unleashes robots from its cables and eliminates dependency on support ships.” OceanComm, an EnterpriseWorks startup, won the Cozad New Venture Challenge in 2012 and participated in the National Science Foundation’s I-Corps program in 2013. In 2014, the startup received two SBIR grants and won the “most promising company award” at the Offshore Technology Conference in 2015. When asked about the company’s decision to remain in the EnterpriseWorks building, OceanComm’s co-founder Thomas Riedl explains that it is because of, “The access to this engineering talent (either UI alum or current students working as co-ops) as well as deep faculty expertise in signal processing, machine learning, circuits and power electronics.”
