These vehicles are all tethered today, which results in significant operational costs. A wireless solution could eliminate the costs of having to tether an ROV.


OmniEars is a student startup partially sponsored by the iFoundry program, the company has already developed marketable highly customized in ear monitors. However, OmniEars is still pushing the boundaries of wearable electronics. For instance, OE is currently developing a mobile software that utilized 3D technology which significantly increased the manufacturing process of in ear monitors. The World Health Organization asserts around 3 billion people still cook and heat their homes using solid fuels in open fires and leaky stoves. Such cooking and heating produces high levels of indoor air pollution with a range of health-damaging pollutants, including small soot particles that penetrate deep into the lungs. In poorly ventilated dwellings, indoor smoke can be 100 times higher than acceptable levels for small particles. In addition, methane and black carbon (sooty particles) emitted by inefficient stove combustion are powerful climate change pollutants.

Tiptek manufacturs ultra-hard and ultra-sharp probes for atomic force microscopy (AFM) applications. Tiptek's AFM probes have tips that are coated with an extremely hard conductive coating and then sharpened to a radius-of-curvature of under 5 nm. This combination of hard coating and sharpening means that Tiptek's AFM probes enable the user to obtain very high resolution AFM images over long periods of use, unlike conventional probes constructed of silicon or silicon nitride which quickly suffer from degraded resolution owing to tip wear.

Tyto is developing a web-based automated farmland appraisal system to incorporate detailed geospatial analyses for fine-grained differentiation for variables that impact the cost of owning and operating farmland.

The University of Illinois China Executive Leadership Program (CELP) was created in 1993 to provide executive education programs for senior managers from Chinese businesses, government agencies and academic institutions. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Illinois is a member-centered community of adult learners that is supported by the Bernard Osher Foundation, the Illinois Office of the Provost, and the generous donations of OLLI members and community partners. StructurePoreTM enables high power, high capacity batteries with enhanced safety and cycle life , all at reduced cost.


Here at the Research Park, the Yahoo! staff focuses on two major projects both involving cloud computing. As a Hadoop Center of Excellence, a team of engineers works on Hadoop, an open-source software framework that allows massive data processing distributed across thousands of nodes and petabytes worth of data. Another team works on a data pipeline project that handles, aggregates and processes data generated from clicks on Yahoo!'s advertising platforms.
